Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi welcomed a group of talented young people, part of the group “Chiron11”, selected by the jury of the NASA International Space Apps Challenge and nominated for a prize in the international competition, among 58,000 participants from all over the world. Talented young people represented Albania.
During the discussion, Minister Peleshi emphasized the establishment of the Innovation Center in the Ministry of Defense. “We want to make a center accessible to everyone, so that every graduate, every student or operator can easily work and interact”.
Mr. Peleshi said that he is very optimistic about the new generation, and also expressed the support of the Ministry of Defense in the field of innovation. “Most of the innovations started from defense, from the internet crash is followed by many problems and challenges. We import a lot of technological systems in our field. Why not produce them here? We have skilled Albanians, they can create the systems and then develop new sectors,” said Minister Peleshi.
The NASA International Space Apps Challenge is a technology marathon initiated by NASA. This event was announced in 2011 with the full support of the American government, but it took place for the first time in 2012. Albania has been participating for 10 years.
The group “Chiron11” has given a solution to the challenge: “Visualization of a space mission using virtual reality”.
These young peoples’ dream is to send a probe to a distant planet called Proxima Centauri B, which could be a place for humanity to live in the future.
